The David Spoon Experience 5-24-23 Part 1

A) Enter the true character that comes from Jesus. Even after David wants God to destroy his enemies by using Godzilla and Rodan, he comes to a momentary better reality. When his enemies were in a struggle, he took their grief upon himself. He stretched out his heart for their goodness. And they reciprocated by ridiculing and despising him. B) A great Bible Study comment on verse 13: “When David’s prayers seemed unanswered, he continued to carry the burden.” Paul says the same thing in Romans 9:3 when he states, For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race. It wasn’t going to happen, but Paul expressed the burden. C) But David has a heart for God. And his deeper character manifests at various moments. “Rescue me” is part one. And each one of us can identify with this. BUT before the rescue, David makes the commitment to share the praises of his deliverance with the family of God. Testify. And commit to testifying when the hand of God enters.

DAVID HAS A FROGGY VOICE:
Plus, the first-time interview with Vilhelm Schpun, also known as Billy Spoon!
1) Job 25:2. He enforces peace in the heavens. We can all stand firm in understanding this; Earth is NOT the actual hotbed of activity in the universe. That is just the arrogance of humanity. We already know we’re not the only beings. We already know there are angels of different forms. We know there are good Angels, and we know there are bad angels, Seraphim and Cherubim. And we know there’s a dude named Satan. There are at least five other types of beings named right there. And we know there’s a whole universe beyond our understanding, but it doesn’t matter. The same God that’s in charge of the universe is the one that demonstrates His love for us. 2) How can a mere mortal stand before God and claim to be righteous? Let us keep this one easy; He can’t. She can’t. They can’t. It cannot be done. 1 Corinthians 1:29: No flesh shall ever glory before his presence. Nobody stands righteous before God. Nobody. Except for Jesus. And through His righteousness, we are able to stand. But only under His Advocacy.3) And occasionally, I just have to pull out these verses because they make me so happy. What are those verses that make me happy? Job 26:1-3? We cannot find too many better examples of scriptural references to sarcasm than we do right here. The word sarcasm means to cut the flesh. The ultimate reference point is that somebody should snip it when there’s too much flesh. That’s what sarcasm can do. So cut it out. Get it.

DAVID HAS A FROGGY VOICE:
A) The husband of one wife: Literally, the bishop must be a “one-woman man.” Although the phrase obviously prohibits polygamy, that is not the sole point. The dominant thought is monogamous fidelity; the bishop must be a faithful husband. For some, the phrase may refer to prohibiting remarriage after divorce, but Paul’s chief concern is the potential bishop’s conduct as a husband at the time of his candidacy for office.
B) Covering a few more of the qualifications, we continue to review what a person in church leadership needs to be like. HE…which is the designation for each of these. It is a male. You know, not to be confused with a female. And if someone has a problem because of how they FEEL about it, rewatch the movie Kindergarten Cop. Must be temperate, which means self-controlled. Sober-minded, which means safe thinking. The one about the booze is coming In a few. This leader must also be of good behavior and hospitable. I can’t think of any clear way to say that a leader cannot be a jerk. He can’t be self-centered and selfish.
C) Able to teach means being able to teach. That doesn’t mean they have to be professional. In fact, none of these qualifications require professionalism. That’s part of the problem that the church has, is that they think that everybody should be a pro who’s in leadership. Sometimes the best teachers are the quietest, most simplistic teachers who just help people draw closer to the Lord.
D) You can’t escape this one. It has to do with not being given to wine. It literally means that life is not taken over by wine or, of course, any other alcoholic drink or drug. A leader cannot be controlled by them. These people cannot function in society. This does not mean that they cannot have a beer. This does not mean that they cannot have a glass of wine. Jesus had wine. They would not have charged him with being a drunkard if he didn't.

1) We close the week with a DDD (Devotional Diamond of the Day), which I call The Lighted Trail. It has to do with a father, a mother, and the Lord. Contrary to the bizarre woke world, the truth is that it takes a father and a mother to raise a child in the right capacity. That’s why God created a father and a mother. It’s not two fathers. It’s not two mothers. It is a father and a mother. This is what human beings need to have a proper balance. It is not what God needs because His balance is always perfect.2) How about a brief reality check using the Book of Revelation? That’s Revelation, as in singular, not plural. Several of you may not appreciate some of the nuances of the multiple views of this book. But there is NOT one right approach, or the church that Jesus built has failed, which Jesus said would not happen. The reason that I say this is that at various church times, the various different views took the front stage. Guess what…the church still moved forward. I guess Jesus was right. Let’s explore.

A) As we wind down in Chapter 11 from the Hall of Fame of Faith in Hebrews, we come to verse 39. All of these people that were mentioned were approved by God because of their faith. But that does not mean they all receive the promises that they were anticipating. Some did, and some didn’t, depending on what the promise was. But the real key is that their faith was so strong that they looked forward. They saw into eternity and recognized that that is where some of their fulfillment was going to take place.B) The truth of the matter is that the entire theme of Hebrews is to help us understand that the New Testament is better than the Old Testament. We can say that with much assurance because that is specifically what the New Testament says. God provided something better for us. What was the something better? Jesus.C) The reality is, without Jesus and without the New Covenant, all of the people of the past would not be made perfect or become fulfilled without Jesus. It is through Jesus’s redeeming work and the blood that He shed. And the perfect sacrifice makes everything perfect for us. For the future in the Kingdom of God, Jesus makes it better. And Jesus makes it whole. The Old Testament heroes could not reach that without us in the New Testament era.

1) Here might be one of the big significant moments of the church, Although absolutely not …whether the church survives or does not. After everybody testifies, Peter, Paul, and Barnabas, it is James who steps up to the plate. James is the Lord’s brother. As signified by multiple scriptures, his declaration appears to be in the Book of Acts, the declaration of the person who is most in charge. Not too shabby… if you’re the Lord’s brother.
2) It seems pretty clear that when James makes a declaration regarding the people of God, he mentions that the Gentiles are, in fact, people for God or people for Himself. There’s nothing wrong with that, but from a prophetic point of view, many people say, oh no ….the Gentiles coming is, in fact, the fulfillment of Scripture for the end times. That would seem kind of bizarre since the entrance of the Gentiles comes about in the early church.
3) Here’s something that will irritate many people. The Gentile coming into the coming of the Kingdom of God is specifically related to the O.T. passages. In the Kingdom of David, for the restoration of the temple, I can understand that somewhere between the receiving of the Gentiles and the restoration of the temple of David, there’s a very close connection. I’m not a theologian, but I’m not an idiot, either.

A) Therefore, since we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. This is not a negative. This is exactly why you talk to your neighbor and to your family, to your friends about how important it is to become a Christian Because we understand what the fear of the Lord is, we desire for people that are close to us to understand and make Jesus as Lord. B) About what? What do we take pride in what? Do we take pride in our appearance, or do we take pride in our hearts? Is it the consciousness of pride in our hearts?C) Can’t miss this; It is for you if we are out of our minds. It is impossible to miss the clarity of that. For the Gospel, we are nuts. And if we are insane, it is only that we are trying to bring people to Christ.D) Here is one of the greatest passages of all. It is Christ’s love that compels us. Think about it. Think about everything. Everything we do is because we are trying to declare that Jesus loves us and died for us. We may not do it perfectly, but we understand how important it is. Christ’s love for us and for all people in the world is shown here.

1) I will share something I have not shared before. Many moons ago, I was involved in the investment phase of my life. We went on a trip to raise funds for a company. While there, a spokesperson couldn’t help but tell us that the end of the world was coming that year or the next year. Of course, this is 20 years. So. I feel confident in saying he was wrong.
2) I mention this because we often think the end is coming when that is not what is happening. The children of Jacob probably thought the end was coming when the famine crushed them, but they were wrong. In fact, it was an entirely new beginning. And that’s what happens when God is in charge.
3) Simultaneously, Joseph probably thought that everything was coming to an end when he went from being sold to being thrown into prison. But he was wrong. He was about to be elevated to a whole another level. When you think that everything is coming to the end, even in this particular season, you may be surprised to know that there’s something new around the corner. The end of times is coming, but perhaps, something NEW happens first? Could be.

A) As we enter into Psalm 35, we’re going to find out quickly that the Old Testament idea of retaliation is alive and well in the Psalms. David comes before the Lord and pleads for the Lord to contend with those who are contending with him. That part is not wrong. He wants the Lord to be his shield. He wants the Lord to be his buckler. A buckler is a small shield. He wants the Lord to stop those who are pursuing him.B) David asks for the people that are fighting against him to be brought to confusion. And then he beseeches the Lord to have the angel of the Lord get involved in the warfare. This gives you a strong idea that this is not just a physical realm of fighting but a spiritual realm too. And if angels are being called upon, it’s very likely that demons have been involved too. C) It is here, in verse 8, that David’s desires get a little more aggressive than the Gospels allow us to function in. He wants them to be completely destroyed and unexpectedly as. We are commanded to pray for people. David is hoping that God will swallow them whole. Not the nicest thoughts, but they are appropriate for the time.

1) As we journey into Galatians, Chapter 2, we discover that Paul returned to Jerusalem again about 14 years later. If you ask me, that’s a long time, but he went with Barnabas and Titus. And those were two very strong believers to give him back up. But the real strength of his decision to return to Jerusalem was that God revealed to him that he should do it. That’s the Holy Spirit leading him.2) There was a concern that Paul had this is reflected, of course, in Acts, Chapter 15, that there would be some kind of disagreement as to what the gospel was. Paul was preaching to Gentiles while the church in Jerusalem was preaching to Jewish people. The irony is that it’s the same gospel. It’s just presented to two different groups of people who would receive it from two different backgrounds. Things went better than he thought. Things often do. 3) Then Paul doesn’t hesitate to pivot into the truth that there are so-called Christians. Then he calls them false Christians. They were people that claimed to be Christians, but they weren’t Christians. They just claimed to be Christians. And there are millions of those. They wanted to try and force Paul into a religiosity. But Christianity is not a religiosity. It’s a living relationship with a living God made possible through the redeeming work of Jesus Christ and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. It’s not about church rules. It’s about the truth that God rules.

A) If you cling to your life: I love this translation because it clarifies what people are doing to “save their lives.” This isn’t about dodging dark allies and avoiding certain ghettos. This is about hanging on to what WE have built. If that is more important than the Kingdom of God, we are missing it. B) Welcome’s you, welcome’s Me. Welcomes Me, welcomes the Father: Here is an interesting element of truth. The Father, Jesus, and all of us are becoming one. This is referenced in John 17:20-23, My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity.C) Water, to the least, is the coolest way to say be nice to people in the body. Even if you disagree about eschatology, be nice. How you treat others in the body directly impacts Divine responses and rewards.

1) As we head towards the end of the Job Kvetch-Fest, I just want to say how proud I am of everybody for enduring with me as we’ve gone through This. Here we are in Chapter 24, nailing down a pretty amazing principle. This is the principle of challenging God’s wisdom (which most Christians do on a regular basis) without calling it challenging God’s wisdom. We often speak as if we could do better or do it differently than God.2) I want to take a moment in this section to talk about spiritual warfare because it is a classic statement from Job about evil people moving the boundary markers. That is exactly correct in the world and in the worldly, and in the flesh and in the fleshly, but even more so true in the demonic and with Satan himself. There’s a lot of stealing going on, a lot of lying, a lot of cheating and a lot of moving the boundaries. Even for what's now acceptable in society, it has Satanic origins.
3) If we take a gander back to the beginning of Genesis, we understand there’s a distinction between light and darkness. Light is. Light is good. Jesus is the light of the world. But mankind chose darkness because of the rebellious nature that is in us. As distinct as light and dark are, that distinction is being made by God (even now), between believers and unbelievers. That has always been the case, regarding those who are sanctified, holy, and set apart. It can be summed up as being distinctive from the rest. That’s what makes people God’s property. That’s you.
