A) Jesus came back to His hometown. Now, other people bring that paralytic man to Jesus. The faith healers used to say, “If you don’t get healed, it’s your fault. It’s because you don’t have enough faith.” But the biblical truth is that faith can be from the person searching or for those around the person searching. B) Your sins are forgiven. But, again, only GOD can forgive third-party sins. That is precisely why Jesus said what He said. And because He said it, the scribes were losing it. They were upset BECAUSE only God can forgive third-party sins. They were upset because Jesus had just declared Himself God. So, yes, Jesus did say he was God. C) They were offended. Jesus was offended that they were offended. This is my new and forever mantra. I am going to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. When someone is offended at what I say and do, I will be offended that they are offended. Coming soon; a bumper sticker that says, I am offended that you are offended. Touche.

1) REMEMBER: JOB’S FRIENDS SHARE TRUTHS BUT WITH THE WRONG ASSUMPTIONS! Now Job takes a poor theological turn. He cries out… “You.” When we become distant from the right perspective, it leads us further and further away because of our own imaginations. Consider a straight line to a target. Go off 5 degrees, and the end result is REALLY far off. Job was not a target. 2) I hate my life. Leave me alone. This sounds like about 50% of the people I know when things are going wayward. Let me set this up with a brilliant illustration: One Sunday morning, a mother went in to wake her son and tell him it was time to get ready for church, to which he replied, “I’m not going.” “Why not?” she asked. “I’ll give you two good reasons,” he said. “One, they don’t like me, and two, I don’t like them.” His mother replied, “I’ll give you two good reasons why you should go to church. One, you’re 54 years old, and two, you’re the pastor!” 3) When we don't know what's going on, we have to stop inserting our imagination into why God is allowing what He's allowing. It's just foolishness that we do it.

A) We need to be sober-minded, be alert. As I have learned, what do we do when there is a tornado warning in Texas? We hear the sirens, we prepare, and we watch, making sure that we are in a safe place. Bingo. B) The enemy is SEEKING to take advantage of us. We resist him by (James 4:7) submitting to God. There’s a key right there. C) We also resist him by standing firm in our faith. Remember that this wisdom comes from one who was “sifted” by Satan himself. Plus, this should help. Everyone is going through this, so we are not alone.

1) There are so many things that the Lord wants to teach us. But too much-polluted stuff in our minds is taking up space. And then there’s the idea that we must live to pay the bills. And then there’s the idea that we are failures as people unless we do this or that. So I told my son the same thing I would say to you and me; one day, we will die. And then we will know what matters. Not too much of the stuff in our minds. 2) Second sources are hugely important. Unfortunately, they are often overlooked because of the primary teaching. But that would be like saying that the Lord can make us a meal, but we only want the entrée, even though God prepared an appetizer and a dessert. Joy comes from the presence of the Lord. But joy also comes from another place. 3) Trying to impress others can cost us more than we know. It can lead to stifled testimony. And it can lead to the denial of Jesus Christ. Others are great. But they have no heaven to put us in.

The Lord will Judge. But Dave, if I were God, I wouldn’t be so strict. Well, you are not God. But Dave, a loving God, would never send people to a place called Hell? People are already on their way to Hell. God is trying to save them using a lifeboat named Jesus. But Dave, Jesus never mentioned Hell. He mentioned it about ten times. Read the book.

1) Agabus: Predicted. Prophecy is both future proclamations and revealing the heart of God at the moment. Haggai 1:13 states, Then Haggai, the LORD’s messenger, gave this message of the LORD to the people: “I am with you,” declares the LORD. That is the now. Many people operate in the church today with this gift. You probably do, too, without the labeling. But there is the future stuff too! 2) By the Spirit. A great famine is coming. Wait for a second, Agabus; how do we know what you are prophesying is from the Lord? Excellent question: If it comes to pass, it’s from the Lord. But Dave, the Old Testament is a ZERO tolerance policy. Yes. But the New Testament has a “test all things” policy. BTW, Agabus didn’t make a spectacle of it. 3) After the prophecy was confirmed by fulfillment, the family of God rallied to help their other family members. The people who had sent help to the people who had not. No government, no requirement, all voluntarily, as God prompted their action. Governments do not often follow the wisdom or leading of the Lord. Optics don’t work in charity.

A) V:18) Our message is not yes and no: Let’s set the record straight. The message of the Gospel is not yes, no, in, out, and all over the map. People are yes, no, in, out, up, down, and all over the place. The Gospel is surer than the foundation of the earth. In truth, after the earth is gone, the same authentic Gospel will still be in place. B) In Jesus, the answer is YES. Not the answer to our fleshly prayers. Not the responses to our fancy desires. In Jesus, and through Jesus, and by Jesus, the answer is YES, and Amen because Jesus is truth. C) Here’s a massively important conclusion: God establishes me, you, the apostles, the prophets, and every other Christian. He anoints, seals, puts, and pledges Himself to us.

1) First, Christian Kaos, part eight: A tale of two cities. A tale of three kings. A tale of four Jews. That’s the ticker, and here we go: Four Jewish Christians, all from the same city in Detroit, Michigan, all living in the same neighborhood, two of which were, and still are, best friends. All saying yes to Jesus within thirty days of each other. And all on fire for Jesus Christ. 2) After the miraculous moment in Gunnison, I decided to push on to Georgetown, Colorado. Billy visited me after a few weeks, and his car took a nosedive. The mechanic let me drive his car into Denver to pick up the parts. Do you know how they say your life will flash before your eyes just before you die? Not so for this Jewish fellow. I spoke in third tongues. And then, after skiing at Keystone…on the same run I was on, just a week later, the chairlift snapped (2 dead, 49 injured). I figured out that God had two chances to kill me. But He didn’t use either one. There was more to do for the kingdom. 3) We now come to this testimony’s most intense and redeeming portion. For all the stuff (and there was a lot), seeing the face of grace changes us. When we see that face, we often think there will be rainbows and skittles. At the very least, we anticipate a trump sound. After all, if God is going to show Himself, we certainly expect to be overwhelmed. We don’t think of God shedding tears and sharing feelings. But He does. And always has.

A) The Lord is my Strength, Shield: Our strength has to do with our inward man and our inner fortitude. That comes from the Lord if it is a strength that prevails. Our shield has to do with our outward protection. This also comes from the Lord but is more like a force field. B) Trusted in is the past. So I am helped is in the present. It’s really a great grace. When we exhibit faith, God doesn’t forget it. Ever. C) And with my song, I will praise Him. Do you have to be a songwriter? No. But in each of our hearts is a song unto the Lord. God loves it, whether it’s a joyful noise or right on pitch. The Great Britain Rabbi and the Gazoo. D) Save, bless, and shepherd. Isn’t it amazing that God considers YOU and me as His inheritance? We are more valuable than we know.

1) To know, know, know Him is to love, love, love Him. Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris sang this. And here is the key. This principle is two thousand years old, at least. Maybe even thirty-five hundred years old. In today’s lesson, we examine the principal avenue to know Him. And who makes this possible for us to experience? Well, it ain’t just about us whistling dixie, that’s for sure. 2) Here is a new spin on the authority of Jesus Christ. Well, not really a NEW spin. More like a fresh take on the purposes of the authority of Jesus Christ. There is more than one purpose. But the primary purpose may surprise many who hear this. The differences in His authority are not on different planets. But there is a priority level. Guess what? YOU are on that priority network.

Dave changes it up by talking about giving. And the reality is that Jesus commanded people to give from a tithing and regular "giving out of generosity" points of view. He discusses Luke Chapter 6, verse 38, as well as Matthew Chapter 23, verse 23. He then spends some time talking about the need for us to carry one another's burdens in order to fulfill the law of Christ. That means, in simple language, we need to help each other with the heaviness that we each go through.

1) Do you think your words are convincing? Job asked. Of course, the truth is critical to any and every conversation regarding life. Kingdoms change, politics change, societies change, and cultures change. But the truth never changes. But truth presented without any knowledge or consideration of a person’s desperation does not impact the speaker’s needs or desires. Nobody will listen if their emotions or on fire. 2) Stop assuming I’m guilty. Here is the fatal flaw in the friends of Job and their tactical approach to setting Job straight. Then Job steps into the same “oops, my thinking is going down the wrong rabbit hole” that his friends went down. The issue is that Job is just now revealing his own problem in understanding God. And understanding the situation that he is in. 3) Have we ever thought that we are going through a trial or even a test, but it feels so random? Here is a brain buster. Your trials have been assigned. That’s right. Even though our perspective, tainted with sin, screams that this whole thing comes out of nowhere, that is simply not true. There is a master. There is a plan. And, by golly, there is a master plan.
