1) Cornelius stared at the angel in terror. Have you seen the pictures of the angels that mankind has created? Have you seen the images of Jesus? Wowzers. Jesus looks like He couldn’t bench press 50 pounds, which would be highly abnormal for a carpenter. And the angels look like they were birthed in a Monty Python movie made for children. What’s the deal? The deal is that people’s images of God and His soldiers are vastly distorted from anything remotely close to the truth. Look at Jesus in revelation one and compare THAT to the painting. Think of this powerful soldier cowering before the angel. 2) Have not gone unnoticed. The angel has a message for Cornelius. He was a soldier, so it would not have been too tricky for the angel to read his mail and tell him how much he had messed up. The same is true for you and me. God can, at any time, read our mail to us, and the postage would prove to be overdue. But that is not what God is looking for. And that is not what catches the eyes of the authorities in heaven. Instead, it is Cornelious’s prays and his actions that make the heavenly headlines. 3) The next day and at the same time. The messengers are arriving at the same time that Peter has his visions. A coincidence or a Divine appointment? What do you think? And that happens so often that we tend to take them for granted. And each is a miracle of God’s timing. Let’s say so!

1) The Blast from the Past. A movie title. So how does this impact Christians? From an essential faith point of view, we repent and surrender our lives to Jesus. To come to an end of ourselves and we find this principle of a new life in Jesus Christ. This thinking is at the core of our faith. But for this to have its intended impact, we must think in this vein. Like when we get baptized, we openly proclaim an end to our old self and the beginning of the new. 2) From the perspective of God and His excellent Jesus glasses, we operate from what is ahead. But from the enemy’s perspective, there is a different approach. He uses our past to warp our future. This is a tactic that will not disappear too soon. The hurt from yesterday has too much power on the walk for today. So, here is what you and I can do about the past. NOTHING. 3) Since we can do nothing about the past, how should we handle it? We shouldn’t. Because we can’t do anything about it, we should remember that we cannot live in the painful past. The great things of the past our to be remembered and cherished. The painful, bitter, and distracting things should be crumpled up like a piece of trash and thrown away. Why should we carry around a bag of garbage on our shoulders? We shouldn’t. WE SHOULD DUMP THE TRASH!

A) It’s time to enter Psalm 25. PTL. This is a psalm about deliverance and forgiveness. And this psalm is “mostly” acrostical or alphabetical in general. So the first word of each verse begins with successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet. B) Lift up, trust, or be ashamed (disappointed, for the end game): all mean HELP. To wait on (or for) is to wait “in faith.” C) To show, teach, and lead are successive delivery steps. Because YOU are the God of (I am that I am) Salvation. And I’ll wait as long as it takes.

1) Friends are there to help. For the unlearned (BTW…that’s not the uneducated, that’s the people that won’t allow the truth into their lives) think that friends are not important. I guess that is why there must be more than 60 references in the Bible. Proverbs 18:24b states, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. And the highest compliment on the universe is t be a “friend of God.” That’s one of the reasons we admire Abe. 2) Comforting and consoling. Much like everybody who is a Christian, the first thing we want to do is be genuinely helpful. Cool. That is Jesus-like. But the next thing we do is try to solve the problem for the person. Guess what? YOU cannot do that. And I cannot do that. And WE should not do that. God can do that. But that is because He actually has the right answers. Sometimes, the best thing to do is just sit there and listen and share the grief. That is true friendship. 3) Sharing the grief cannot be artificial. It has to be authentic. It does not have to be words, but it often has to be some form of presence. A true friend, a Christian friend, a carrier of burdens, knows that their friend may be beaten up and look brutalized. But instead of pointing out the obvious, a friend cares enough to say nothing. Silence is powerful.

A) What’s the theme? The judgment of everyone. The saved and the unsaved. And guess what? The people that think you are a wackadoodle will still have to face God and give an account of themselves to Him. B) This opportunity also meant they were judged according to men in the flesh, meaning that the issue of eternal judgment is determined by one’s response to the gospel while alive. C) “In the spirit ” here refers to the realm of the Spirit, with eternal life, especially in view. D) The end is near. The sign guy is right. Be available and ready to pray. Living in a drunken stupor pretty much eliminates that.

1) Because it is hard for us to keep pure hearts clean and our minds pure, we need to be honest and willing to ask for help. However, it is not a coincidence that this prayer is connected to the same Psalm that reminds us that God continually speaks to us through His universe, day and night. He also speaks to us through His Law, day and night. His communications are so powerful that they can restore our souls, day or night. And we need His help, day and night. 2) There are so many things swirling about this world of ours. And the Media is faithful in pointing out that there are disasters, no matter your political position. And the government is faithful in pointing out that if things are great, it is because of them, not God. And if things are lousy, it’s not because of them, so blame anyone else. But God tells us to settle. 3) Why does leadership matters? Because lousy leadership can incur God’s wrath in this country and every country. Unfaithfulness to the Lord can bring any government into trouble. Is America in trouble? I wonder why.

A) Receive the promise: Promised of God abound. Guess what? You and I must receive or accept them for us to take ownership of them. Like when a package needs to be signed for. B) Of the eternal inheritance: something Jesus left us in HIS will. It is eternal life. He died for this to be executable. That truth that He resurrected does not invalidate that He died. It’s our inheritance. C) A will is valid when a person dies (not discussing living wills now). My inheritance. I signed it. I received it under his terms. It was WAY less. But it was the inheritance the Lord had chosen for me.
