The David Spoon Experience Part 2 7-1-2022

This 60-minutes is all about: Good show if you need prayer: 1) I'm a pretty active guy. I try to keep myself active spiritually, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Far from perfect, or anything close, I sincerely appreciate the grace and mercy of God. I receive it positionally and practically or situationally. But similar to everyone who has been an authentic Christian for more than 10 minutes, I get weary. That's not a surprise. But this might be: Colossians 1:29 says, "according to the energy of Him." That is the direct Greek translation. enérgeia (the root of the English term "energy") – energy; "power in action"(Wm. Barclay, NT Words, 46.) I need His energy. You too! 2) Jesus emptied His last breath of His own choosing. Unfortunately, some terrible and wicked comedians have been trying to connect this act of love to something less. The fool has said in his heart, that there is no God. But the key is that this moment changed the nature of our relationship with God. We went from Old to New. And the curtain was ripped from top to bottom. That means that God made the tear. 3) Whacking others with the Word of God. People who use the Law to kill are yucky. People who use the Spirit to bring life are cool. Be cool. We are commanded in His word to use His word, to bring life, not death. Speak life.

These 60-minutes are all about: 1) They prayed for the new Christians to receive the Holy Spirit. As most of you know, this is a contention for Baptists, Pentecostals, and several other faiths. This is NOT a matter of fellowship but doctrinal distinction. Are these people Christians? That is what it says in the text. What’s the difference? They were not baptized in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, so they did not know about the Holy Spirit. 2) The Apostles’ prayer is that they would RECEIVE the Holy Spirit. They needed to receive the Holy Spirit because the FULL Gospel was not what they understood. Comforter? Counselor? Whose that? But be honest, no tongues are listed here. So, step back a bit. Please don’t try to justify your church wisdom as much as listen. I know both sides well. 3) Simon saw that new Christians were receiving the Holy Spirit by the laying on of the Apostles’ hands; he wanted that power. He could make a fortune if he could sell God’s presence in people’s lives. But God’s gifts cannot be bought. Not by anyone, anywhere, for anything. And Peter coins a phrase (yes, he did) that often gets the kid gloves treatment for interpretation. He told Simon to go to H…E…Double Hockey sticks. Peter burned him. And he would be burned again—double ouch.

This 30-minutes is all about: A) The key to this passage is understanding the refuse portion. This means that it is NOT O.K. for the sins we struggle with. No pride! B) By their fruits, you will know them. So if a person has the continual production of no morality and doesn’t love God’s people…Then yuck. C) Why did Cain kill Abel? Because Cain’s deeds were evil and Abel’s deeds were good. Take Notice. D) This is directly applied to the world’s relationship with the authentic Christian believer.

This 60-minutes is all about: 1) It is difficult to imagine why the Lord allows some of the worst leaders to continue on leading. But, of course, this is why HE is God, and we are not. We do not “see” the unfolding of time as He does. And His purposes, which are more important than our human perceptions, will prevail. It’s as though God could take someone one brick short of the load and move them into a good place. But, Davie…that could not happen with politicians. You’re right. I guess it can only occur with murders. 2) The are reasons for the struggles that we go through. There are reasons for deliverances that we receive. One of the most profound truths of the faith is that God allows life events to show the depth of the darkness of mankind. He then turns the situation in such a miraculous fashion to show His compassion and wisdom. Gee, if we would only learn from what He teaches us instead of just trying to survive it all. 3) The real challenge is what kind of clothing we should wear. First, of course, we know that we should put on the armor of God, as mentioned in Ephesians six, daily. But that is so we can deal with the enemy and the world. So what kind of clothing should we wear to engage with God daily? The answer is as simple as pie. Humble pie.

This 60-minutes is all about: 1) We are what we wear. After all, the outside mirrors the inside. O.K, what does that say about undershirts and socks? Not much. We are what we eat. That is true to a degree. But I don’t think anybody is actually a popsicle or a salad. You are what you think. That’s truer, to a much larger degree than you are what you eat since the brain produces over 80 percent of the body’s responses. But they all fall short of this absolute truth. This principle connects what we wear, what we eat, and what we think; We are what we worship more than anything else. 2) He can do it, but will he do it? I’m going to answer that question with another question. And when your school teacher or your parents said that you should answer a question with a question, they were wrong. Jesus used this tactic all the time. So here is the response question: He can do it, but will He do it? Do we underestimate our God? 3) We often make a reference to the sermon on the mount when Jesus talked about building a house upon sand or building a house upon a rock. This is the difference between the doers and the hearers. So, what’s the big deal? One way or another, the storms, the streams, the high waters are coming. How we engage determines their impact.

This 30-minutes is all about: A) Therefore because we will change our focus and lay up treasures in God’s kingdom, He will help us get through life in this kingdom. B) Do Not Worry. This is a choice. We can decide, because of God’s faithfulness, not to worry. How much we worry should be an excellent indicator of how much we are NOT trusting God.
