This 60-minutes is all about: 1) Fasting, sackcloth, and dust. These are Israelites, not fanatics. These are expressions of repentance and sorrow. They are not religious looney tunes. These are expressions of humility. These are the actions of hearts that have ripped up before the holy God and acknowledgment of their shamefulness. Pride and No Shame simply means that those people do not care about what God thinks or says. But how can we know what God thinks about an issue? He created the universe, and He can write a book. C’Mon, man. 2) They separated themselves from all foreigners. That does not mean they wouldn’t engage with or participate with people who acknowledged Jehovah as God. This meant that they would not be intertwined with people who worshiped other gods to be separated from God. They could not afford to allow their hearts and minds to be perverted away from God by the ungodly and demonic influences of the world. Wow. That sounds like a few current denominations right now. Ouch. 3) They confessed their sins. They confessed their ancestor’s sins. NOT TO ONE ANOTHER. NOT REPARATIONS. BUT TO GOD. There ARE passages that talk about sharing our sins with others. But that ain’t this. Confession is good for a person. In reality, to hold unconfessed sin is to sap our strength, like the summer heat drains our physical power. When we express the weakness we struggle with to God, we move it from a secret place to the altar of God, where it should be.

This 30-minutes is all about: A) Submission to human authority is biblical but to a degree. For example, the Old Testament forbids being cruel to cattle, let alone to another human being. B) Unreasonable are the jerky bosses. Everyone has either had one or has been one. God never forgets how we treat others or how we are treated. C) Enduring unjust suffering makes us connect to Jesus better. He went through it. We go through it. Let’s make it clear. Get my free book off the website if you want to understand why God allows pain.

This 60-minutes is all about: 1) After we have done everything we have done. After we have done our best, prayed that it’s blessed, and tossed it up to Jesus to take care of the rest. After the prayers, tears, and fighting the fears. After our hearts and minds have emptied every ounce, we have. After the noise, after the silence, and after the extended worship moment between God and us. After all is said and done. The time has finally arrived to do the one last thing that must be done. It is the hardest thing to do. But we must do it. We must…WAIT! 2) As Christians, we point to the one distinguishing truth that separates us from all the other faiths, whether they are secular or pseudo-spiritual. We stand alone in the world with our reality, as every other spiritual quest fails to promise what we have been promised. It is THE resurrection. It is not A resurrection. It is THE resurrection. Many “A” resurrections have happened. In truth, this happened in both the Old and the New Testaments. But THE resurrection is the one with Jesus. We examine why it’s different for Him. And why is it different for us too?

This 30-minutes is all about: A) Abraham gave him a tenth. Some translations say “of everything,” but that everything was from the spoils of what Abraham captured in the warfare encounter. 1) The word for everything is mer-id'-zo in Greek and means “a share.” 2) Abraham did not go home, collect a tenth of what was at his home base and come back and give Mel a tenth. That is not what happened [V. 4]. 10% of their “produce.” B) The tithe came before the law. Get over it. You are not under the law, but you and I are under the obligation to reflect God. God is a giver. All the way down to sacrifice. If we were honest, we would prefer the law because “less” is expected than is we give like God. C) Mel is a specific forerunner of Jesus in the Old Testament. King of righteousness. King of peace. Here is the Gospel in the Old. Without the typical mom and dad, and with no end of days or life. Looks like JC.

TOP SHOW...This 60-minutes is all about: 1) It’s a new day, new dawn, and a new chapter in the book of Acts. As we slide into chapter eight, we meet the early villain of the church. He will not stay a villain. In truth, he is almost the opposite of Judas. Judas appeared fine but proved to be the greatest traitor of all. Saul starts cruel but becomes one of the greatest encouragers of all. 2) A wave is how the Bible describes the persecution that launches against the church. It was dramatic and relentless. I used to bodyboard in La Cachina, California. As a novice. I would go out, where the waves were 8 feet, and try to catch a ride. I often missed them. And one big wave after another would come smacking down hard upon me. Sometimes, I was pushed way under the water. Imagine if persecution was like that. It was like that for the early church. Do we still want to be like the early church? 3) Back to Saul, the monster. He was focused on destroying the church. Not by eliminating prayer in school. But by arresting believers and throwing them in jail because they were believers. Biblical perecution is not inconvineint, in devestating. It’s not just immoral; it’s life-threatening. So they were dragged out of their houses and were locked away in jail. Tough stuff. But this is what led to “The Spread.”

TOP SHOW...These 30-minutes are all about: A) Here is something that I miss from time to time. My hope in him, my hope for the future, my hope for all that heaven might be, is a motivation for walking the straight and narrow. B) Dave tells the story of fingers and drivers. C) Expository thoughts as to what happens that are hearts become so callous to the power of God, straight from Dave's personal devotions today.
