The David Spoon Experience Part 2 5-9-2022

This 60-minutes is all about: 1) We have finally arrived at some of my favorite Nehemaih portions. The scroll was brought before the assembly. Some churches demand that everyone be at the main gathering. Some churches require that only adults be at the central meeting. Some churches, like these two mentioned, should be more like Jesus. Kids are great, especially if they understand what’s being taught. But for churches to use Nehemiah as their service structure means: No roof for anybody. Please child. 2) Oh yes, here’s the other thing. How about some biblical proof that we live in a microwave church society? In any church larger enough, we have multiple services. In goes the herd, out goes the herd, and in comes the next herd. That’s not as bad as I am making it, but in Nehemiah, they say together from early morning until noon. At a minimum, that’s four hours of listening to the reading of the Law. Can you say, “what’s for lunch?” because I know I can. And I have. 3) And here is the challenge for the twenty-first-century church: paying attention. You have likely heard of the expression, “I’m so broke, I can’t pay attention.” Nowhere is that more true than in the modern church. We are so spiritually broke that if the pastor isn’t fascinating, we start checking stuff out on our phones. Yeah. That’s not too impressive.

This 30-minutes is all about: A) We will never be ashamed of believing in Jesus. In the end, He will make sure that everybody knows He was right, and we are His. BTW: You and I are prophetic fulfillments of Isaiah 28:16. B) Jesus: Good. Believer: Good. Unbeliever: not so good. But the key is the last half of the text: From the human side, they “rejected.” C) But the next verse brings the Divine balance. They disobeyed, and God knew they would, so it’s a form of appointment. Not far…I call foul! Gee, if only you were God.

This 60-minutes is all about: 1) Two plus two is four. At least, today it is. Math often does not lie. But it’s NOT a perfect discipline either. Certain equations have still not been answered. But there are many clear-cut formulas in math. For instance, Jesus was on the cross. The crucifixion process started BEFORE the cross. But we examine the actual time Jesus was on the cross. We examine the scriptures that help us understand how much Jesus loved us to do this voluntarily. 2) Dave answers a few straightforward questions about art. 3) The Arrow and the Song (modified): By Longfellow. I shot an arrow into the air; It fell to earth, I knew not where; For who has sight so keen and strong, That it can follow the flight of song? And, drum roll, please, the answer is God can follow it, direct it in midflight, and make it land in the exact spot where He wants it to. Just like with our lives.

B) The desires of the eyes: Eve wanted the fruit that was “pleasing to the eye”—not obsessed by what is seen…in anything. C) The pride of life: the inward attitude and the outward boasting because of an obsession with one’s status.

This 60-minutes is all about: 1) I want to talk a bit about faith. It is such a radical concept for a logical society. The Greeks believed that faith was foolishness. But faith is God’s vehicle for us to connect with Him. Why? When you get to heaven, ask Him. We need to grasp that God receives people because of faith until then. 2) Here is the ticket. No faith, no pleasing God. No, it is not a one-time one-place one-moment one-space faith. It is a faith that is alive. Why does it have to be alive? Because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. And guess what? The Word of God is alive and active. So, if we have Christian faith, it MUST BE alive, active, and powerful. 3) Dave shares a bizarre but blessed experience in extreme faith.
